Division of Armed Forces History
The Division of Armed Forced History collects the material culture of American military technology, its armed forces, the Japanese American internment experience during WWII, and the 9-11 attacks on the United States and interprets it in relation to the country's social and cultural history. The division's collections, exhibits, public programs, research, and writing put America's armed forces into historical context. For areas of specialization, please see the staff listing below, and the collections link.
The collections of the Division of Armed Forces History document the history of the men and women of the armed forces of the United States through superb collections of American (and some foreign) ordnance, firearms, and swords; U.S. Army, Navy, Marine, Army Air Force, and Coast Guard uniforms and insignia; national and military flags and banners; military and naval accoutrements; and naval ship plans and archives.
