Kingdom of Edessa

The Kingdom of Edessa was founded in the 2nd century BC with the fragmenting of the Seleucid empire following the defeat at Magnesia in 188 BC, and survived as a semi-independent buffer state between Parthia and Rome until after the advent of the Sassanians.  Edessa did produce a coinage from the mid-2nd century AD through the mid-3rd century, which was Parthian inspired and included coisn with Aramaic or Greek legends.
