Fats Waller [photoprint, ca. 1939]
- Summary
- Fats Waller, wearing hat, standing with another man (Shep Allen) in front of a theater, presumably the Howard Theater, marquee bearing his name, as he hands a piece of paper to an unseen figure. Print mounted on Bristol board with subject's name lettered below. Caption from another print in box 1.1.A4: "'Shep Allen,' mgr. of Howard Theatre looks on while Fats Waller, jazz pianist + composer, presents a check to Off. Roland Valentine, Police Boys and Girls Club". Scurlock name printed vertically at lower right on print. Print is flush-mounted on mount board, then affixed to 14" x 11" board (probably with tape), with hand-lettered label at bottom of mount. This print is from a series of portraits apparently mounted for an exhibition
