The inscription on this tin reads in part “Dr. Wernet’s / PROPHYLACTIC / TOOTH POWDER / CHEMICALLY COMPOUNDED / BY AN EXPERT / ENDORSED BY LEADING DENTISTS / SOLE MANUFACTURERS / THE DR. WERNET TOOTH POWDER CO. LTD. / PHILADELPHIA, PA. U.S.A.” Dr. George L. Wernet (1873-1934) was an entrepreneurial dentist in Philadelphia who promoted preventive dentistry. The Wernet Manufacturing Co. began in business in 1906.
