Samuel A. McAllister served with the 1st Delaware Volunteers. On December 18, 1862, Sergeant McAllister was appointed sergeant major of Company F, and six days later on December 24, 1862, he was further promoted to second lieutenant of Company B. In January 1863 McAllister was made first lieutenant with Company F. During the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862, he was present when Captain Rickards (cat. #3955JJ) was killed.
