After retiring from a sales job in 1963, Mary Kay Ash came up with her plan for a dream business that allowed women to succeed personally and financially. Using her $5,000 life savings, she founded cosmetics company Mary Kay in September 1963. The company employs more than three million women today.
This cosmetic palette is housed in a pink plastic box with a hinged lid that snaps closed. Inside the case, the top row consists of five round eye shadows in silver, green, gold, and darker shades of silver and gold. Below these is a mirror running the length of the case and an indentation with two plastic-handled brushes. “MARY KAY, INC.” is stamped on the pink handle of each brush. The bottom row in the case includes five round containers of lipstick in yellow, orange, gold, red, and a brighter orange.
