Orrery

Description
This unsigned wooden instrument was probably made in the United States in the early 19th century, and probably used by an itinerant lecturer. It consists of a circular table with three turned legs. A zodiac, with its 12 signs, is painted on the table top. Above this is a geared mechanism representing the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Moon.
