Menu, Dinner in Honor of Gen. Charles de Gaulle, 1960

This menu was created for a special dinner in honor of His Excellency General Charles de Gaulle, President of the French Republic, by The World Affairs Council of Northern California and The Commonwealth Club of California. The event was held in San Francisco’s Civic Auditorium on April 27, 1960.
The menu’s paper cover shows the blue, white, and red stripes of the flag of France. Inside, the menu is listed (“Filet de Bouef Lardé Rôti, Haricots Verts Amandine, Pommes Rissolées, and more). Wines from two of California’s leading wineries at the time were served: Wente Brothers Dry Semillon and Louis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon. The program of remarks and a listing of the guests at the Speakers Table follow.
