Description
Raised, chased and repousse baluster-shaped teapot on flared pedestal base with domed and lobed, hinged lid topped by a cast acanthus-and-berry finial. Ribbing around neck conforms to lobes on lid; two reserves on body are formed by ogival arches, ruffled C-scrolls and flowers, one is engraved "C.E.O." in shaded gothic or Old English letters. Cast and applied scalloped rim, smooth on inside; beading at foot. High-loop S-curve handle with scrolled acanthus is pinned into ivory insulators and scrolled sockets. Body perforated at faceted S-curve spout with raised bead at middle and applied shell on top lip. Underside of convex bottom struck around centerpunch, "TIFFANY & C\o." and "550 BROADWAY.N-Y" encircling "4838" (covers centerpunch), "G & W" stamped once, and "5", all in incuse serif letters.
