Seamed, tulip-shaped, footed cup with four oval reserves, three of which are repousse chased with clusters of fruits and flowers while the fourth is engraved in script "S.W.K. / from / Aunt Margaret". Hollow, leafy broken-scroll handle; applied molded rim with milled bottom edge; and a molded circular base. Underside of flat bottom struck with three incuse marks "STANDARD", "J.E. CALDWELL & Co." and "*P.L.K.*", placed above and below possible centerpoint.
Made by Peter L. Krider (1821-1895) for J. E. Caldwell & Co. (business founded in 1839 by James Emmot Caldwell but name and mark adopted 1848), both of Philadelphia, PA. Krider made holloware (specialized in beakers) sold under his own name as well as for retailers in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Kentucky, and elsewhere. Worked as Krider & Co., 1851-1859; Krider & Biddle (with John W. Biddle), 1859-circa 1870, and Peter L. Krider Co., circa 1870-1903 (acquired by Simons Bros. Co.).
