Percussion Cap Tin

Small, cylindrical, japanned retail tin for "250 WATER PROOF / CENTRAL FIRE / PERCUSSION CAPS / ADAPTED TO / SHELLS FOR COLTS PISTOL / AND / BREECH LOADING SHOT GUNS", made by the Union Metallic Cartridge Co. of Bridgeport, CT. Friction-fit, flat cover is stamped from one piece and bears a circular lithographed label on top featuring the company's monogram surrounded by product information. Two-piece container has a plain rim with raised bead below and a flat bottom folded over the soft-soldered lapped seam body. No marks besides label.
Union Metallic Cartridge Co. was incorporated in 1867. It merged with Remington Arms Company in 1912 to become Remington U.M.C.
