US Army chapeau worn by William Tecumseh Sherman

Description
US Army uniform chapeau worn by William Tecumseh Sherman after he was promoted to the rank of Major General in 1865. The chapeau is made of black fur with black fabric ribbon stripes. It is ornamented with a gold and black sunburst-type insignia topped with gold eagle and shield and bordered in stars, made of gold thread, and a black feather plume. The hat features gold tassels on either side.
