Caroline Lodge's Sampler

Description
This sampler by Caroline Lodge, dating to 1809, is stitched with silk embroidery thread on a linen ground with a thread count of warp 26, weft 32/ in. The stitches used are cross and hem. The inscription is: “Caroline Lodge Aged 8 ys." Caroline Lodge was born on May 25, 1801 to Giles (1770 – 1852) and Abigail Harris Langdon (1776 –1846) Lodge in Boston, Massachusetts. She died unmarried January 22, 1863. Relatives include Senator Henry Cabot Lodge and his grandson U.N. Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge.
