This Leroy Ellis basketball card is number 18 in a series of 264 that was manufactured by the Topps Company Inc. for the 1972-1973 National Basketball Association season. The front of the card features a posed picture of the Los Angeles Lakers center-forward on a blue background. The card’s reverse features a small cartoon image illustrating the factoid that “Leroy wears contact lenses,” as well as a short biography and career statistics.
Leroy played 14 seasons in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers, Baltimore Bullets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Philadelphia 76ers. Ellis had the notable distinction of playing for the 1972 Lakers who won a then-record 69 games and the NBA title. The very next season, Ellis then played for the 76ers who lost a record 73 games in 1973.
