This Topps John Wetzel basketball card is number 72 in a series of 264 that was manufactured by the Topps Company Inc. of New York, New York for the 1973-1974 NBA season. The front of the card features a posed picture of Atlanta Hawks guard John Wetzel. The card’s reverse features a small cartoon image illustrating the factoid that “John served 2 year Army hitch,” as well as a short biographical sketch and career statistics.
Wetzel played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, and Atlanta Hawks during his seven-year NBA career. His playing career was interrupted from 1968 to 1970 due to military service. He later served as the head coach of the Suns during the 1987-88 season.
