Description
These objects were collected by Brooklyn high school teacher and historian of mathematics L. Leland Locke and held by the Museums of the Peaceful Arts in New York City before coming to the Smithsonian. Included is a set of 9 brass discs with pins, alternating with steel discs, arranged on a shaft with three additional discs and a quarter disc. Rotating a steel disc causes pins to protrude from the adjacent brass disc.
