Amurol Ammoniated Tooth Powder

Description:

Glass jar with a paper label that reads in part “Amurol / AMMONIATED / TOOTH POWDER / Licensed by the University of Illinois Foundation under United States Patent application of R. G. Kesel, J. F. O’Donnel, E. R. Kirch, and E. C. Wach.” Amurol was on the market by 1949, with advertisements claiming that it was “based on a formula developed by University of Illinois scientists after years of research.”

Robert G. Kesel worked in the Department of Dental Pathology and Therapeutics, of the University of Illinois College of Dentistry. Ernst R. Kirch, Department of Chemistry, University of Illinois College of Pharmacy. Edward Charles Wach (1885-1965) was a graduate of and faculty member at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry. Joseph F. O’Donnel has not been identified. Amurol was a corporation in Illinois.
