Abbott-Detroit Radiator Emblem

Description
This radiator emblem belonged to an Abbott-Detroit automobile manufactured by the Abbott Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan between 1909 and 1916. Abbott-Detroit moved from Detroit to Cleveland in 1917, eliminating the anachronism in their name by producing Abbott automobiles until 1918. This radiator emblem has a curved top with a pointed bottom with a blue enamel background. An interlocked “AD” is in the center of the emblem in white, flanked by the text “ABBOTT DETROIT/MOTOR CO. U.S.A.” in bronze lettering.
Radiator emblems are small, colorful metal plates bearing an automobile manufacturer's name or logo that attached to the radiators grilles of early automobiles. Varying in shape and size, the emblems served as a small branding device, sometimes indicating the type of engine, place of manufacturing, or using an iconic image or catchy slogan to advertise their cars make and model. This emblem is part of the collection that was donated by Hubert G. Larson in 1964.
