This tribute performance celebrates the music and legacy of jazz legend Jim Pepper, who fused traditional Native American songs and rhythms with jazz, rock, and blues. Of Kaw and Creek heritage, he is best known for the Native American anthem “Witchi Tia To,” and his album "Comin’ and Goin'" is considered a cult classic. Original Jim Pepper band members and colleagues, including Gordon Lee (piano), Caren Knight-Pepper (vocals/percussion), Ed Schuller (bass), Dennis Springer (tenor & soprano sax), Bill Bickford (guitar), and Steve Johns (drums/percussion), reunite to perform his classic songs interwoven with traditional Southern Plains songs performed by members of the renowned Oklahoma drum group, Yellowhammer. A ceremony presenting Jim Pepper’s saxophone to the Museum will be held between performance sets.
