Object 54 [of 66] – "Joy of Cooking" book "We all have copies of 'Mrs. Joy.'" The kitchen bookshelf contains the books Julia used in the kitchen and videos she reviewed before their broadcast. These are the books she kept handy for reference, including the Larousse Gastronomique, and two well-worn copies of The Joy of Cooking, the first cookbook she acquired after her marriage and the one she most used, after her own. Her own cookbooks, marked "Kitchen," fill the shelves as well, along with reference books on wine, French and English dictionaries, local telephone directories, a bird guide, and a copy of Bartlett's Familiar Quotations.
