This B-flat clarinet was made by the Selmer Company and is typical of clarinets widely available in the first half of the 20th century. It was owned and used by Harold Woolridge, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who was a soloist with the Sousa Band from 1921 to 1928. Woolridge held the solo clarinet chair for 7 years and traveled more than 400,000 miles with the Sousa Band and other groups. This clarinet is used in "America on the Move" to represent the type of musical instrument Jazz Age musicians might have brought with them to New York in the 1920s.
