From the Smithsonian Collection
Bas reliefs depict front-end views of a 1920s automobile. They were decorative elements of the facade of the Capital Garage in the 1300 block of New York Avenue in Washington, D.C. The Smithsonian collected them from the rubble of the demolished garage in 1974.
Physical Description
Two identical cast concrete sculptures showing the front of a generic automobile ca. 1926. Details include windshield, visor, grille, headlights with mounting bracket, radiator shell, radiator cap with temperature gauge, horn, fenders, axle, springs, tires, hubcaps, and license plate. 62" H x 61" W x 13" D
