Brookeville Turnpike lead to Seventh Street in Washington, a major route for farmers coming into Washington, D.C. from Montgomery Country, Maryland. Businesses established themselves along 7th Street. By 1900, 7th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue was the hub of Washington's business district.
