History |
 |
With the full opening of Chicago's Union Loop "L" route in 1897, the city's competing transit companies agreed to share right-of-way, track, and platforms around the "L" structure circling the Loop. But each of the companies loaded trains at different positions on the platform, and each charged their own fare.
