
Spillway at Manicouagan no. 3

Manicouagan unit 3 is a sand and gravel dam with a concrete spillway. Construction started in 1970 and was completed in 1976. Rated electrical capacity in the underground powerhouse is 1,183,200 KW. Note the log-flume at left. The "Manic 3" reservior is the second in a series of four on the Manicouagan River. The depression filled by the upstream Manic 5 reservior was created by a meteor impact over 200 million years ago.
