A Tribute to Ambassador Charles T. Manatt, 1936-2011

Ambassador Charles “Chuck” Manatt served on the Board of the National Museum of American History from September 2004 through December 2010. Over the course of his six years of service on the Board, Chuck faithfully attended meetings and helped the Museum achieve its goal in the Star-Spangled Banner Campaign which transformed the Museum’s public spaces to provide a more meaningful experience for visitors.

Chuck believed strongly in the mission of the Museum and generously supported its efforts to reach broader and more diverse audiences. His personal commitment to public service and belief in the democratic system were hallmarks of his dynamic personality. He brought a keen intellect, a deep love of country and an irrepressible sense of good humor to the Museum’s Board.

Chuck’s presence and leadership will be greatly missed. We are indeed grateful for the time, energy and passion that he shared with us at the National Museum of American History.
