Work with the Diary Project team to accomplish our goal of adding context and depth to William's entries:

Become a Supporter
Provide crucial financial support so that full-time staff can continue with the complex editorial and archival work that made this installment of the site possible. Thousands of research reports need to be transformed into annotations linking to records within the site, the greater Smithsonian, and beyond. At least 40 major Diary topics such as economics, politics, transportation, and German American life will be developed from this material and supplemented by more than 300 additional contextual images. Annual summaries for all 36 years will be written and additional generations of the Steinway family tree will appear.

Become a Volunteer Researcher
Volunteers prepare well-researched, lively, and succinct summaries of people, events, and movements in the Diary using multiple credible sources. Research is done at the volunteer’s convenience using Smithsonian resources, local libraries (suggested resources are provided), and the Web. Some researchers work closely with one another and take on assignments together, while others prefer to work independently. For more on how to volunteer at the Smithsonian, contact VIARC
