Lovely day again, after two three attempts, St. Louis is selected as the place of the Convention, and soon after the date is fixed for June 5^th just as the Pres. wanted it I feel greatly pleased. After an attempt at having the whole crowd photographed, I dine at Welckers Hotel and depart with the 3.45 P.M. train for N.Y. arriving just at 10 P.M. at my house. Find Mr. + Mrs. J. Otto Toussaint and daughter there Sleep finely. I also offered resolution in memoriam of death of Hubert O. Thompson

Excessively busy all day. See Pastor Krüsi on Marriage of Lili Lehmann & Kalisch, the latter having arrived pr. Steamer Saale this day. Lunch at Mauers. At Breakfast table Willie insists that I should kiss Frl. Bernkopf, to our great merriment. Both Leavitt and Mauriac call separately speaking against each other as to Flushing & Queens Co. Bank. Yesterdays and todays papers all over the Country are full of Dem. Nat^l Convention and mention of my name. Feel perfectly free from Rheumatism and feel very light on my feet. Home in ev’g, working
