New York, Febr. 23d 1888.

Febr. 23d Thursd.

Lovely day again, after two three attempts, St. Louis is selected as the place of the Convention, and soon after the date is fixed for June 5th just as the Pres. wanted it I feel greatly pleased. After an attempt at having the whole crowd photographed, I dine at Welckers Hotel and depart with the 3.45 P.M. train for N.Y. arriving just at 10 P.M. at my house. Find Mr. + Mrs. J. Otto Toussaint and daughter there Sleep finely. I also offered resolution in memoriam of death of Hubert O. Thompson

Febr 24th friday

Excessively busy all day. See Pastor Krüsi on Marriage of Lili Lehmann & Kalisch, the latter having arrived pr. Steamer Saale this day. Lunch at Mauers. At Breakfast table Willie insists that I should kiss Frl. Bernkopf, to our great merriment. Both Leavitt and Mauriac call separately speaking against each other as to Flushing & Queens Co. Bank. Yesterdays and todays papers all over the Country are full of Dem. Natl Convention and mention of my name. Feel perfectly free from Rheumatism and feel very light on my feet. Home in ev’g, working

Febr. 25th sat.

Notice in N.Y. Staatszeitung as to Lili Lehmanns Marriage, who came in at 6 P.M. introducing her husband, Paul Kalisch to me to whom she was married at Rev. Krüsis Church at 5 P.M. yesterday. Terrible weather, at 4 P.M. at Queens Co. Bank, hold meeting of directors of both it and the Flushing Bank. In ev’g at store meeting of Com. Of Germ. Democrats, full discussion, am interviewed on Lehmann marriage by Herald reporter after stopping at Lüchows home at nearly 1 AM

Febr 26th Sund.

Moist mild weather. All papers full of Lehmann marriage connecting my name as advisor with it. Work at store in forenoon, weather gradually clearing up. At 11.30. A.M. I am surprised by the receipt of the
