Surgical Saw

Description:

Surgical bow saw with an ebony handle and “HOSP. DEPT / U.S.A.” and “GEMRIG / PHILA” inscriptions. Jacob S. Gemrig was a German cutler who arrived in the U.S. ca. 1830, and established a business in Philadelphia. His son, John H. Gemrig, continued the firm.
