1911 Wisconsin Home Coming Pinback Button

This collegiate button has a red background with white (discolored) printing that says, "Wisconsin Homecoming 1911." The button marks the first "homecoming" football game in Wisconsin's history, a game they tied with Minnesota 6-6 at Randall Field in Madison. While the button may be from the game, it is possible that this button is just a token commemorating the first homecoming game. Buttons that were made specifically for the 1911 game said "Wallop Minnesota" rather than what appears on this button. The festivities at the first homecoming included a Friday evening with alumni speakers, refreshments (which consisted of doughnuts, apple cider and cigars) followed by an all-university smoker with vaudeville acts, dinner and reception Saturday after the game.
