Diffusion Pump (Replica)

Description:

Irving Langmuir (1881-1957) received a PhD in chemistry at Gottingen in 1906 and joined the scientific staff at the General Electric Research Laboratory in Schenectady, New York, in 1909. While studying light bulbs, he made important improvements to the diffusion pump, and these ultimately led to the invention of the high-vacuum rectifier and amplifier tubes.

This is a glass replica of Langmuir’s first diffusion pump. The "WILMAD GLASS CO., INC. LANDISVILLE, N.J.” inscription refers to a precision glass firm that was in Landisville by 1951, and in Buena by 1970. It now does business as Wilmad-LabGlass.
