Description (Brief):

Plates read: "Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co. / Pittsburgh, Pa. - U.S.A. / Direct Current Motor / Compound Wound / 8 H.P. EMF 110 / AMPS 70 / Full Load Speed 225 / [serial] No. 172936". "44" painted on frame. Description: Direct current motor with direct coupling arrangement at one end of armature shaft - oil feed cup for bearing. Commutator with four 2-brush sets coupled to variable output control. Screws adjust brush tension. Commutator end of shaft has oil feed cup for bearing. Cables lead from brushes to terminal posts on frame. Motor has four field coils. Control box supplied with motor. This motor was used to power an electric fan in the House of Representatives' kitchen at the US Capitol. Reference: Westinghouse Engineer, January 1950, Vol. 10, No. 1, page 72.
