Microcomputer, IBM 5155 Portable Personal Computer

Description:

This white plastic computer was designed to be transportable, partly in answer to Compaq Computer's portable model. The keyboard, monitor and disk drive are all contained in a large suitcase-like form, complete with a retractable handle. The keyboard flips up to prtoect the monitor and drives and the back area near the handle has a pull down protective cover.

The machine and its remaining components and software (e.g. the parts of accession 2007.00010) were purchased by and donated to the Smithsonian by its user. New York City lawyer Michael L. Sher.
