Intraocular Lens

An inscription on the cardboard package reads “IMPLENS / SAMPLE / INTRAOCULAR / LENS” and “Mcghan Medical Corporation, 700 Ward Drive, Santa Barbara, Ca. 93111.” This is a style 53. Donald McGhan (b. 1934) established McGhan Medical in 1972. The firm was incorporated in 1974 and acquired by 3M in 1977. Its first product was a breast implant that used silicone in fluid gel form, rather than the rubberier version used in earlier implants.
