Anatomical Chart


Gustav H. Michel (d, 1936) was a doctor who developed a new embalming fluid while working with the French Foreign Legion in French Equatorial Africa. In 1902, now living in Cleveland, Ohio, he established the G. H. Michel & Co., to manufacture embalming fluids and anatomical charts. That firm donated this set of seven charts, with wall rack, to the Smithsonian in 1923. Dr. Michel also authored The Scientific Embalmer (Cleveland, 1913), and taught in the Medical Dept. of Western Reserve University.
