Herrick Perforated Capsicum Plaster

Description:

The inscription on the package reads, in part: “PREPARED FOR / DR. HERRICK’S FAMILY MEDICINE CO. / JAMES F. BALLARD, Proprietor / ST. LOUIS, MO., U.S.A.” Dr. Herrick (1816-1877) established a proprietary medicine business in Albany, N.Y., in the mid-1830s. James Franklin Ballard (1851-1931) established a pharmaceutical business in St. Louis in 1882, and collected oriental rugs.
