Dorothy Gulliver cinema card


Hand-colored cinema card for actress Dorothy Gulliver with a short biography on the back. American actress Dorothy Gulliver was born on 6 September 1908 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Gulliver received her first film contract after winning a Salt Lake City beauty contest sponsored by Universal Pictures. She made a successful transition from silent films to “talkies” and appeared mostly in Western dramas, even starring alongside actor John Wayne. Gulliver also appeared in films such as College Love (1929) and The Last Frontier (1932). She passed away on 23 May 1997 at the age of 88.

This card belongs to a set titled "Cinema Stars: A Series of 30 Hand Coloured Pictures" which features popular film actresses from the 1930s. Collectible cards like this were very popular during the 1920s and 1930s, and they were distributed by various brands in both tobacco and food products. In the 1920s, Cavanders Ltd. also released the following sets of cards: "Beauty Spots of Great Britain," "Foreign Birds," and "River Valleys."
