Her husbands were: actor Webster Campbell, producer Walter Morosco, owner of the Washington Redskins George Preston Marshall, and actor Danny Scholl. During her marriage to Marshall, she wrote the lyrics for the Redskins fight song “Hail to the Redskins.” Griffith also wrote eleven books between the years 1947 and 1973. She died of heart failure on 13 July 1979 and her contributions to the film industry are honored by her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
