SynCardia 50cc temporary Total Artificial Heart (TAH-t)

Description:

The SynCardia temporary Total Artificial Heart (TAH-t) replaces the failing native heart and pumps blood through the body. This 50cc is an investigational total artificial heart. It has two ventricles attached with Velcro, and four artificial heart valves called SynHall™ Valves. SynHall Valves are used exclusively with the SynCardia TAH-t and are made of titanium and pyrolytic carbon. A flexible cannula extends from each ventricle and is color coded with blue and red bands. The cannula with the red band attaches to the left ventricle and the cannula with the blue band attaches to the right ventricle. As of July 15, 2015 the 50cc total artificial heart is an investigational device, and was designed to accommodate smaller framed individuals, especially women and adolescents.
