Soccer star Pelé gave this signed Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) yellow jersey to advertising agent Tony Dieste, of Dieste, Inc. after performing in a television commercial titled "World Cup" promoting Sierra Mist, in 2004. In the commercial, 14-year old soccer phenom Freddy Adu takes a break from practice and both players crack open a cooler and reach for the last Sierra Mist at the same time. The two duke it out with a series of highly skilled and elaborate tricks to win the drink. Though Adu wins the show off, Pelé snags the bottle while Adu circles the field in celebration.
Dieste, Inc., founded in 1995 by Tony Dieste and Warren Hamel, is a leader in mutlicultural marketing and has won multiple awards including several Cannes Lions, the highest award possible in the field of creative advertising and communications. The national collections hold a sampling of their work.
Originally planned as Spanish-only, the commerical also ran in English. Signed by Pelé in black ink on the front.
