In 2012, the XIX International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2012) was held in Washington DC. The conference is sponsored by the International AIDS Society (IAS), the world’s largest society of professionals dedicated to advocating for a “world in which HIV no longer presents a threat to public health and individual well-being.” As part of this work, IAS organizes a biennial conference. In 2012, the conference brought together 23,000 participants from over 170 countries.
Since the emergence of the AIDS pandemic, free distribution of condoms has been a central component of most educational campaigns. At the 2012 International AIDS Conference, condoms with brightly-colored packaging and clever slogans were widely distributed.
This green “Dots” condom was designed by Proper Attire, a company that aims to remove stigma from women buying and carrying condoms. They also work with Planned Parenthood to provide access to contraceptives. These were given out at the 2012 International AIDS Conference held in Washington, DC.
