The front cover features a multi-color illustration of two blonde-haired little girls grooming their pet dog. The inside front and back cover pages contain two identical black and white illustrations of a seated girl drawing a flower and a seated boy drawing a stick figure. These have been colored in with crayons also. The title page and facing inside cover page contain black and white illustrations of children and their toys. This volume is 40 pages in length and was printed ca. 1890-1900. The inside front cover page contains the following inscription: “To Julia From Aunt Mattie, Xmas 1916.”

These stories were penned by Fannie E. Ostrander (1859–1921), an American writer, editor and teacher. Born in North Haven, Connecticut, Ostrander was a graduate of the Wisconsin State Normal School. She taught school for several years before going to work for a publishing house in Chicago in 1899. She wrote a series of magazine articles titled "New Lines of Thought", and wrote both prose and verse for a number of magazines. She wrote a number of novels and books for children, as well.

Charles E. Graham & Company was a publisher active in New York City from the late 19th to the early 20th Centuries. This house published a wide variety of juvenile literature, from classics such as Grimm’s Fairy Tales and The Three Little Pigs to original children’s story books.
