Quart Measure

Description:

Jersey measure or flagon with double-acorn thumb piece, engraved "C. H. M." in serif letters on face of handle; quart size. Wedge extension is burnt to the plain, pointed and pouted lid; one end of hinge pin is impressed with a flower. Plain body with a slightly flared rim and an incised, flared base. Strap handle with short terminal; circular strut. Partial touchmark inside lid "IDSX" in raised serif letters with a star above, all in a circle. Several partial incuse marks on bottom exterior, including "x's, "P"s, and "*"s.

Maker is John de St. Croix, Jersey, Channel Islands or London, England, working 1730-1765.
