Japanned, oval canister with friction-fit, flat cover. Canister is painted with three decorative borders: a narrow white (appears pale blue) band containing green chevron-stroke leaves and red berries at top; large, transparent white rope strokes with red, green and a few yellow overstrokes accented by yellow dot circles and leaflets below that; and a row of yellow ladle strokes at base. Yellow brushstroke groups on shoulder and cover. Canister is made in four pieces: collar has a soft-soldered lapped seam, body has one vertical folded seam at side, and the rounded shoulder and flat bottom have folded edges. No marks.
Attributed to the North Tinshop of Fly Creek, NY, circa 1790-1841.
