Tea or Spice Scoop

Small, handless, closed-top scoop with a semicircular, wooden back and an angled, flat, semicircular bottom that allows it to sit upright at a 45-degree angle. Cylindrical body has a soft-soldered lapped seam secured with a small rivet; its lower edge is folded over the bottom. Wooden back has a gray-blue printed paper label affixed inside that reads "WARRANTED STEEL / NO 1. / MICHIGAN SCOOP CO, / Battle Creek, Mich." in a variety of serif and sans serif fonts within a geometric border.

The Michigan Scoop Co. of Battle Creek, MI, was founded and incorporated in 1885 by David H. Metcalf. The diminutive size of this scoop suggests it was probably used with tea, spices, or sugar.
