Cigarette Case


Rounded rectangular, niello case with overall scrollwork accented by arrow-shaped leaves on a wrigglework ground; spring-loaded, hinged lid has "КАВКАЗЪ" in large Cyrillic letters arched across top, while back includes a central, shield-shaped reserve engraved "JSWJ\r" in conjoined shaded script. Semi-circular, push-button catch with additional lifting tab at one end of lid. Gold washed interior has two, thin, metal strap retainers. Inside lid and back are both struck with an intaglio, left-facing kokoshnik or assay mark containing "84", a left-facing profile of a woman in headwrap and possibly "ИЛ" ("IL") at right, next to the raised letters "CMH(?)" in a surround.
