Rectangular case with rounded ends and a rounded-edge, flat lid and bottom; the lid is engraved with a border of split scrolls between lines of fine reeding, scallops and dots around the inscription "Saengerbund. / to his / Leader Prof. F. Kley. / Jan. 1\st 1874.", while the bottom is plain. Box sides are made of a die-stamped band featuring birds perched on a continuous, undulating branch bearing different kinds of flowers and leaves. Gold washed interior. Bottom underside struck "ENGLISH STERLING" (curved) in incuse roman letters. No other marks.
