Costume worn by Rosalind Russell in The Girl Rush

Description:

Costume ensemble worn by Rosalind Russell in the role as Kim Halliday in the film The Girl Rush. Russell wore this costume in the "If You'll Only Take a Chance" number in the film. Edith Head designed the costume, comprised of a leotard, panties, and a headdress.

The red synthetic fabric leotard has appliqued sections of darker red fabric below the waist. It is trimmed all over with sequins, beads and rhinestones in red and gold tones, with several ruffles of red net attached to lower section with elaborate stiffened gold sequin trim at back. The panties are brief-style with elastic at waistline and legs; one pair in red knit and the other in a pale orange knit lined with lighter orange knit. The headdress is made of knit buckram hand-covered with gold fabric; same sequin trim as on back of leotard extends up from band.

The Girl Rush is a musical comedy film directed by Robert Pirosh and released by Paramount Pictures in 1955. Rosalind Russell, Fernando Lamas, and Eddie Albert starred in the film, which tells the story of a down-on-her-luck museum worker in Providence, Rhode Island who inherits a run-down Las Vegas hotel.
