Mechanical Pencil


This mechanical pencil belonged to the chemist, Leo Baekeland. The inscription reads "Autopoint / Pat and Pats Pending / 4K Green Gold Filled." The Autopoint firm was founded in Chicago in around 1918, and since 1979 has been in Janesville, Wisc. Bakelite acquired a large interest in the firm in the 1920s.
