Birdseye twill weave coverlet fragment, 19th century


Multi-colored coverlet fragment, woven in a plaid, with a birdseye weave. It is made with blue and cold z-twist single wool yarns in the warp and weft, and single ply z twist cotton yarns in the warp and weft. Some 3 ply cotton yarns are also seen in the fragment. The yarn count is 27 x 32. The repeat is 4 1/2 inches by 4 1/2 inches. There is a 3/8 inch hem stitched with blue yarn.
